We have been able to traced my maternal great
grandmother's family, the Nock
family, back to
the 1600's in this country. My
father's side of the family lived on the
border of Virginia and Maryland on the Eastern
shore near Chincotteague Island in Greenbackville,
Virginia. The family farm was called "Montrose
Farm" and it was owned by his parents (my
great grandparents), Theodosia Nock Powell and
Bernard R. Powell.

 The
farthest back that I can trace the Powell's is
to my great great grandfather John F. Powell. His
son was Bernard Powell and one of his sons was
my grandfather J.
Robert Powell Sr, pictured left. My
grandfather died the year I was born so, I never
knew him and therefore, I have very few pictures
of him. He was a mason; a member of Lodge
243 A.F. and A.M. He
was one of four children, his brother Bernard and
two sisters, May and Louise. At right is a picture
of my grandfather with his mother, grandmother and
his siblings.

My grandmother, Mildred Katharine
Hudson was from Girdletree, Md, (pictured
here with my grandfather, John Robert Powell.
Her father was a Hudson and her mother was
a Watson. Since my father was an only child
we knew her well. She lived with us for most
of my childhood until she moved to Richmond,
Virginia to the Masonic Home. She lived to
be 97 years old. |

My grandmother's mother's maiden name was
Watson and this is a picture of the Watson's
house in Girdletree, MD. |

My grandmother was the eldest
of four children, three girls, Eloise, Madeline
Wilson, and one boy, Preston. This is my grandmother
