My Family Tree

My Family Tree

My mother and father when they were first married. My parents Ellen Jane Fogleman Powell and John Robert Powell Jr. when they were first married, during World War II. Philadelphia, Pennsylvania

My mother and father are both gone now, but they were very important to me and my mother left lots of family information for me to use to start on my genealogy quest.

When my parents passed away I was elected to watch over the tons of photos and papers that my mother had collected of our family. The photos I remember the most, from when I was a child, were the wedding photos of my great grandparents John and Frances Fogleman. They were married in 1864 and she is wearing a dress that appears to be buckskin. I remember seeing this picture when I was very little in my grandparent's Francis Ellen Shoffner Fogleman, b. August, 1846parlor. My grandfather, John Page Fogleman would tell us stories of how he was born in a log cabin and one of 12 children.

John Tyler Fogleman and Frances Shoffner Fogleman, 1864.

When I began researching our family I bought the software program, Family Tree Maker and loaded in all the information that my mother had received from various relatives and newspaper articles. Both sides of our family have been in this country since before the Revolutionary war so, there is surprisingly alot of information available. My mother's family were very prominent in North Carolina and therefore there is lots of information. My father's family, the Powell and Hudson's were from Maryland and Virginia and from what we can find out, they have been here since the 1600's.
